An energy expert has advised Government to engage cooperating partners to supplement people’s ability to be connected to the national electricity grid.
Dr. JOHNSTONE CHIKWANDA says this is in view of proposed new electricity connections fees set to take effect on January 1, next year.
Dr. CHIKWANDA explains that cooperating partners like the World Bank through its program of connecting people who can not afford electricity connection fees, can help minimize the cost of connecting to the grid.
Dr. CHIKWANDA has told ZNBC news in an interview that increasing electricity connection will also enable Zambia meet the UN Sustainable Development Goal number seven on access to electricity for all by 2030.
He also appealed to ZESCO and financial institutions to take advantage of innovative financial solutions, where a customer could be paying on agreed terms for the new tariffs.
Energy Minister PETER KAPALA recently announced that new electricity connection fees will be effected on 1st January next year.
