HH CALLS FOR PARTNERSHIPS TO INVEST IN EDUCATION

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called on African countries to partner with the private sector and increase investment in the education sector to create skills needed to create jobs on the continent.

Speaking when he officially opened the 2022 Innovation Africa Ministerial Summit which is being held at Bonanza Resort in Chongwe, President HICHILEMA said the private sector is key in helping governments provide quality education for the young generation.

The President HICHILEMA said as investment in education is increased, there is need to also leverage on technology.

And former Tanzanian President JAKAYA KIKWETE said the provision of quality education is the only way countries can create the Africa that is needed.

Mr. KIKWETE, who is also Chairman of the Global Education Partnership, said Africa needs a generation of young people with skills to create jobs and reduce poverty.

And Education Minister DOUGLAS SIAKALIMA said government wants to make Zambia an innovation hub.

Meanwhile, Science and Technology Minister FELIX MUTATI said Africa must use Information and Communication Technologies -ICTs to come up with home grown solutions to challenges.

Mr MUTATI said ICTs have the potential to transform the continent to a level where lives will be changed.
